Participants in the Spring Semester in Thailand may be eligible to receive $5000 from the Freeman Foundation to support their participation. The deadline for submission of the application is November 1.

You are eligible to apply for a Freeman-ASIA award if you meet the following conditions:

1. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents at the time of application.
2. Applicants must be currently enrolled as undergraduates in U.S. colleges or universities and be in good academic standing.
3. Applicants must currently receive financial aid or have verifiable need for financial assistance to study abroad in Asia.
4. Priority will be given to students with no previous experience in the country in which they plan to study.
5. Awards are available only to students who plan to study abroad in the following countries/regions: Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Laos, Macao, Malaysia, Mongolia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam.
6. Within three months after return from a study abroad program in Asia, awardees must fulfill a service requirement to promote study abroad in Asia on their home campus and share their knowledge with their community.
7. Awardees must submit a final report within 6 months after return to the United States, summarizing their experiences, including the implementation of the service requirement.

There are also two other scholarships available to SST students: The Gilman Scholarship and the NSEP scholarship. Both of these programs are administered by the Institute of International Education.
