Participants
in the Spring Semester in Thailand may be eligible to receive $5000
from the Freeman Foundation to support their participation. The deadline
for submission of the application is November 1.
You
are eligible to apply for a Freeman-ASIA award if you meet the following
conditions:
- Applicants
must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents at the time of application.
- Applicants
must be currently enrolled as undergraduates in U.S. colleges
or universities and be in good academic standing.
- Applicants
must currently receive financial aid or have verifiable need for
financial assistance to study abroad in Asia.
- Priority
will be given to students with no previous experience in the country
in which they plan to study.
- Awards
are available only to students who plan to study abroad in the
following countries/regions: Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia,
Japan, Korea, Laos, Macao, Malaysia, Mongolia, Philippines, Singapore,
Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam.
- Within
three months after return from a study abroad program in Asia,
awardees must fulfill a service requirement to promote study abroad
in Asia on their home campus and share their knowledge with their
community.
- Awardees
must submit a final report within 6 months after return to the
United States, summarizing their experiences, including the implementation
of the service requirement.

There are also two other
scholarships available to SST students: The Gilman Scholarship and
the NSEP scholarship. Both of these programs are administered by
the Institute of International Education.
