Description:
This course intensive language study focusing on understanding and
speaking. Aimed at students with no previous study of Thai language.
Small groups and individual instruction reinforced by living with
a Thai family. Students will also learn to read and write Thai language
if they take the 2 credit optional course (no extra charge). Classes:
For the first two weeks of the course students will study Thai 4
hours per day. There will be formal language instruction with no
more than 8 students per class for three hours per day and a language
laboratory for an hour per day. After the second week of classes
students will move in with their "Thai families" and thereafter
each week they will have three hours of language instruction (90
minutes on Mondays and Wednesdays) and 3 hours of Thai language
laboratory work. Including formal instruction, examinations, and
laboratory work there will be a total of 100 hours of language instruction
in this course. Assigned
Texts:
Students will be taught from Beginning Thai
Volumes 1 and 2 (Speaking and Writing System) created by members
of the CMU Faculty of Humanities and published by the Faculty of
Humanities, Chiang Mai University. Evaluation
and Grading:
Students will be evaluating in creative ways involving skits, class
presentation, traditional language dialogue sessions, and some written
work. |
